A tough time at the Tough Mudder

On a cold, wet and above all muddy Sunday. Garry and I trudged, swam, crawled, waded & climbed through 12 miles of a gruelling team assault course. Along with around 20 other gullible fools from our local gym, we took part and successfully completed the 2015 Tough Mudder at Boughton House near Kettering. Along the way we were treated to such delights as crawling through a gas chamber, being zapped by electricity and perhaps most memorably given an “arctic enema”. A none too pleasant experience that involved being forcibly submerged in icy cold water not once but twice. Firstly by being shoved down a slide and then secondly, (and more cruelly) being forced to dunk yourself back underwater and swim in order to get out of the freezing water.

Overall it certainly was a challenging experience, it was a bitterly cold day and a biting wind was merciless on our waterlogged clothes. Despite all that strenuous activity it seemed a near impossibility to regain any kind of warmth. Unlike many other events of this nature, the Tough Mudder is very much viewed as a team challenge to be completed rather than a race to be won. As such we were not timed but our best estimate is that our team were out there for a good 4 hours. Fortunately not all of this abuse went entirely unrewarded as we were able to raise £1197 for Cambridgeshire Hearing Help. We would both like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from Newnorth that contributed to this, it is greatly appreciated.
